B.E.S.T. of Long Island
Bridge Education for Successful Transition
Young adults with a greater sense of purpose have increased happiness and mental health, with lower levels of depression and anxiety. Creating purpose and happiness in one’s life is a journey and a process. BEST of Long Island is here to guide young adults along their individual path and journey.
Tommy’s Friends offers a 2-year Transition Program for young adults who have either graduated, or aged-out of high school. Instruction is individualized to address personal goals and achievements.
B.E.S.T. of Long Island bridges the gap between the classroom and the community with a strong focus on soft skills such as self advocacy and interpersonal relationships. BEST sets students up for a successful transition. Individuals will learn crucial transitional skills such as communication within the workplace, conflict resolution, time management, maintaining personal finances, and preparing for in-person job interviews. Our 3,000 square foot facility is equipped with a food pantry, a plant room, an office with reception desk, a fast food counter with cash register and Point Of Sale system, and a studio apartment with a living room, dining room, kitchen and bedroom area.
Fall and Spring Semesters will include curriculum-based courses.
Coursework classes will include didactic lessons, video examples, and role-play scenarios.
B.E.S.T. participants will have the opportunity to learn and practice a variety of vocational skills within our Bethpage facility.
